# Teams & roles

> How organisations, teams, and roles control access in Expanse.

Every Expanse user belongs to an **organisation**. Within an organisation, **teams** group members and control which computes each member sees. Membership and roles are managed from the [Teams page](https://console.expanse.sh/teams) in the Console.

Roles are set per user, per organisation — a user has one role that applies across the whole organisation, not a different role per team.

## Roles & what they unlock

### Owner

The organisation owner.

* Manage organisation settings
* Manage admins and members
* Create and delete teams

### Admin

An organisation administrator.

* Manage members
* Manage teams
* Register and deprovision computes

Admins **cannot** grant or revoke the owner role.

### Member

An organisation member.

* View compute and execution pages
* View team membership
* Use assigned organisation access

Members **cannot** manage members or organisation settings.

## Inviting members

Owners and admins can invite new members from the Teams page. If the invited email does not have an account yet, Expanse sends an invitation and adds them to the organisation after they sign up with that email.
